Cancer support counselling
Life limiting illness support
The diagnosis of a life-limiting illness or cancer can change your life in an instant and can turn your world upside down. It can be a scary, confusing and confronting time with so much to navigate – doctors’ appointments, medical jargon, the hospital system, waiting for results, scans, decision making, financial and practical concerns. Emotions such as shock, disbelief, anger, sadness, and anxiety are common. Every aspect of your life is impacted - relationships, family dynamics, sexuality, body image, work and finances just to name a few. Associated feelings of loss and grief can make seeing a way forward difficult.
And what happens when your treatment is finished? The security of regular check ins with your Nurses and Doctors is no longer there, no more days filled up with appointments, scans or blood tests. You might hear ‘you look great’, but often you may not feel great - a lot has changed for you and sometimes others do not understand this. Ending your treatment, fear of recurrence and survivorship can leave you feeling vulnerable, lonely and sometimes a little bit lost.
It is like a ripple effect and can have a huge, and often a quite different impact on partners, carers, family and significant others who are unsure about how they can help those they love whilst dealing with their own varied emotions.
I offer counselling support for anyone who is impacted illness.
